Most of the students I work with are preparing for the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Certification (FPGEC), and if that includes youâthis blog is especially for you.
đïž As of October 25, 2025, any FPGEC application received on or after that date will need to meet revised passing standards for the TOEFL iBT section scores.
đ For many pharmacist candidates, this may actually be a positive shift, especially for those who have struggled to meet past requirements. Itâs a new opportunity and a fresh chance to reach your certification goals.
đ Updates

If you have further questions about these changes or whatâs required for the FPGEC, I strongly encourage you to consult the official NABP bulletin:
đ Upcoming TOEFL Changes in 2026
In addition to the FPGEC updates, ETS will introduce several changes to the TOEFL test experience starting in January 2026:
1. More Adaptive Reading & Listening Sections
TOEFL will begin using adaptive testing technology, which means the questions will adjust in real time based on your performance. This shift is designed to create a more personalized testing experienceâa change many test takers may welcome.
2. Dual Scoring System
In an effort to remain competitive in global education markets, TOEFL will include two scoring formats:
The traditional scaled score (0â30 per section, same as now)
A new banded scoring system (1â6), similar to IELTS
These changes are still developing, and Iâll continue to share updates as theyâre confirmed by ETS and NABP.
đ Final Thoughts
If youâre a pharmacist preparing for the TOEFL, please make a note of these dates and updates. This is your time to plan ahead, adjust your goals, and take advantage of upcoming changes that could help you succeed.
As always, Iâm here to support you on your TOEFL journeyâwhether itâs understanding new scoring systems, practicing with updated reading techniques, or building your confidence to finally reach those passing scores.
Stay strong, stay focusedâand stay tuned.
