When preparing for the TOEFL, most students focus on practicing reading, listening, speaking, and writing. They take practice tests, study vocabulary lists, and review grammar rules. And of course, practicing these skills is essential for success. 📚
But something just as important — and often overlooked — is mental preparation. 🧠
No matter how well you prepare, you can’t control exactly what will happen on test day. Maybe the question is harder than you expected. Maybe you get nervous and forget a key point. Maybe you simply have an off moment. Stressing out before — and during — the test can undo weeks or even months of hard work.
💬 A Real Story That Changed My Perspective
I’ll never forget a story one of my students shared after taking the TOEFL for the first time. He said, “I could have passed. I was doing well, but the moment I started focusing too much on how well I was doing, I got in my head. I lost my focus, and everything fell apart.”
That moment taught me something powerful: sometimes it’s not just about what we know — it’s about how we show up mentally.
🧘🏽 Why Mental Calm Is Just as Important as Practice
Common sense tells us that the calmer we are, the better we can focus. But when we're under pressure — when it’s the real test, not just a practice session — it’s surprisingly difficult to stay calm, even when we know we should.
Our body’s stress response takes over. That’s why I teach my students how to calm their nervous system as part of TOEFL preparation.
✋ What is EFT Tapping?
EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, is a simple tapping practice where you gently tap on specific energy points (like the forehead, cheekbones, or collarbone) while saying calming statements.
This helps:
Release stuck energy 🌀
Reduce anxiety 😰
Refocus your attention 🎯
Return to the present moment 🧘♀️
It’s a tool I believe every test-taker should know.

💖 Final Thought
Remember, success isn’t just about how much you know. It’s about how you show up — mentally, emotionally, and energetically.
So give yourself permission to:
Feel calm
Stay centered
Be gentle with yourself
You’ve got this. Show up calm, clear, and ready. 🌟
